What is Censorship?

Deleting, banning or getting rid of any information that may cause someone to be upset, sad or angry. That is the definition of censorship. Some thing are censored like XXX (don’t want to say the word), bigotry (prejudice) or sites, blogs etc., about the government that the government thinks is bad or wrong.

Some of you may think that censor just means, ex., censoring a song because it has to much swear words or people don’t want their children to hear that kind of stuff. Well that is not the half of it. Youtube doesn’t let any XXX stuff, or any of that in manner, on their site because they think it’s wrong and bad. If Youtube did see anything like that they would flag it and then ban it from their site so no one would have to see that kind of garbage.

Another example would be sites or blogs that say stuff like “I hate the government!” or “They don’t give us any freedom! I want a new president!”. In Canada and other countries, doing stuff like that is okay. We are aloud to say what we have to say. But in other places like Egypt, if someone made a blog saying stuff like that then they would be arrested by nightfall and would have their site deleted so no one would see what they had to write.

I think that if something need to be censored, then go off and censor it! You wouldn’t want your children to come across a dirty website would you? Or hear curse words in music? It’s as simple as that.

Speaking of Mr. Fisher… We had to read his post about Censorship, Audience, and International Collaboration and we had to answer a little question he asked us. Was it right in censoring the terrorism video? Well to me I think that people would have got offended. It would have made them mad thinking that we hate America. Well personally, I don’t. Even though my friends were just making a video and putting in what they thought dose not make it bad for what they have done. Some people would have got a laugh from it. I have to say it was kinda funny but others would think not. So short form really would be yes. Yes I think it was the right thing to do and delete the picture of Mr. Bush.

Well that is all the time I have for now so good-bye my people and peace!

Hi. I also agree with you that censoring songs is only part of censorship. Although, it is very common. Also, I think that you were right in saying that Youtube censors things like XXX, but do you think that they censor to little?

I think that your example of people talking about their government being censored is wrong. Nobody should be censored from their freedom of speech. I’m just glad that it doesn’t happen here, in Canada.

Personally, I’m not sure if Mr. Fisher was right in censoring their video. What I do know, is that he made a safe decision, because if people were offended, we might not have done any of this kind of stuff any more.

I guess that’s it. By the way, great post!

Hey ty i just read you’r post on censorship and i agree with what you say that paople dont need to see that kind of stuff on sites and that kids dont need to see it either but i dont agree to what you say about the music. I think unless the musics really bad then you shouldn’t censor it.
